Thursday night owl

And once again it's the start of my weekend, my Friday night. :-) My work schedule often feels like a parallel universe. For example, my paid holiday is always the day before everyone else. At Thanksgiving, my holiday is on Wednesday because there is no paper published on Thursday. But I have to work on Thanksgiving Day because there is a paper on Friday. Christmas and New Year's work the same way. It's disorienting, to tell you the truth.
In addition, the typical workday ends at 5 p.m. when most people are home making dinner, getting on the Internet, watching TV, etc. In my world, anywhere from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. is my 5 p.m., which means I usually stay up pretty damn late, like 3-4 a.m., every night. (Thank God for adult swim, which has become my nightly companion. LOL Venture Brothers is a trip and I adore The Mighty Boosh!)
I am also going through "the change of life" as my mom always referred to it and am seeing an acceleration in symptoms, such as much bigger hot flashes and major trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, etc. Consequently, I feel tired all the damn time.
My job is pretty stressful anyway, but when you factor in all of the changes and cutbacks that have occurred over the past year, plus the pending switch to a paid Internet site (which is definitely going to impact my workload!) and the hits we have taken in advertising, resulting in a much smaller and tighter paper -- not to mention my own personal bullshit and baggage of nigh on 50 years, it does tend to wear one down a mite.
Hmmm, where am I going with all of this, eh? Well, as I posted on Facebook the other day, I feel as though I am becoming a sleep vampire. :+= And I thirst...

Happy 2010!

Well, another year lies before us, folks. Let's try to make it a good one! Things are certainly bad all over in so many ways right now, but in spite of it all, there are also wonderful things happening every day. And no matter what is wrong in our lives, we all know each of us has a lot for which to be thankful. I think we should make an effort to be grateful every day for the blessings we enjoy.

(And if that's no use, there's always self-medication.)

Have an awesome Thanksgiving!

Once again, it's that time of year when we all count our blessings and thank the Great Maker for the good and positive things in our lives. Here are some of the things I am grateful for:

-- recently surviving the H1N1 virus and accompanying prolonged high fever,

-- still having a job (albeit, at times, an extremely frustrating one!) with health insurance and benefits in these very uncertain times, especially for newspapers,
-- all of my dear and wonderful friends, far and wide,

-- my pretty terrific apartment here on the nicest street in Ashland, and

-- having a computer to type this on!

I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, full of friends, family and fellowship, not to mention turkey with all of the trimmings and a big slab of pumpkin pie with Cool Whip!!

Happy Halloween from Gwig!

Gwig, the Vampyre King! LOL

Yes, Halloween has finally arrived in Pet Society, the game I have been hooked on since shortly after joining Facebook in June. I have been saving up the gold coins you can earn in the game for weeks now with my favorite holiday in mind. This is the second week the Pet Society shops have offered Halloween items (like clothes, wallpaper, decorations, etc., all for your virtual pet's pad) and I have been on a wild shopping spree. LOL I can't wait to see what they roll out next week!

Above you will see a photo of Gwig's new (and as far as I am concerned, permanent!) Halloween lair. I even bought an extra large room so I could make it super awesome. Note the spooky wallpaper, gravestone, festive cake, witch's broom and skull candy bucket. Some of the decorations even glow in the dark when Gwig turns off the light switch. Can you believe this shit? LMAO

And right now all of the trees in the park are bare and when you bump into them they shower you with Halloween treats. Seriously, dude. I wish they had parks like that here. Ashland Parks and Rec. Committee, get on that, pronto! Not to mention the spooky glow-in-the-dark fish you can catch in the pond. Or the haunted tree in my front garden that bears Halloween candy instead of fruit. It's too much fun!
